I guess if I learn one texttalkunword a week, I will ultimately be able to form a sentence. I've studied five languages, and trying to learn another is tedious. It seems as if this was a week when everything I attempted was more complicated than it needed to be, and a new language was a small part of the grand scheme of challenges destined to come my way.
Technology usually gives me a hard time. Twice this week I tried to navigate the sea of information on the Internet and succeeded, so chalk up a win for me.
Then I tried to fill my gas tank as I normally do but at a different location from my usual one. I inserted my credit card, gave my ZIP code, chose the cheapest gas. But before I could start pumping, the little window asked if I wanted a 5 percent discount. I indicated "yes" and then learned it was not available for my credit card. I punched "Cancel." Ever the optimist, I punched "Yes," and then the machine wanted to know which additive. How would I know that? My usual gas pumps don't offer additives, and if they did, I still wouldn't know which one. I punched "Cancel" again and finally got to fill up while I longed for the days BSS (Before SelfServe).
