Ce qui "choque" aussi, c'est la façon dont la famille Banks a adopté les codes des familles traditionnelles blanches américaines. Elle a sans doute été plus que motivante pour les jeunes noirs des années 90. En amont, le Cosby Show mettait déjà en scène le quotidien d'une famille nombreuse noire-américaine, l'ancêtre de 7 à la maison en quelque sorte mais en beaucoup plus fun !
